Powerdrive Technologies has proudly implemented Sri Lanka’s first Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)-based Container Tracking System (CTS) at the Colombo Port, a critical project commissioned by the Sri Lanka Port Authority (SLPA). This innovative solution significantly modernizes the port’s operations, enhancing the efficiency and precision of container management.
The Colombo Port, a vital maritime hub in the region, faced challenges in tracking container movements within its terminal. The existing Container Terminal Management (CTM) system, while equipped with satellite-based yard mapping and automated gate operations, required an advanced solution for real-time tracking. Powerdrive Technologies stepped in to provide a robust RFID-based system, enabling seamless monitoring and management of container operations across the terminal.
Key Features of the RFID-Based CTS
RFID-Enabled Tracking : Active RFID tags installed on terminal trucks, along with strategically placed RFID readers, allow for real-time tracking of containers, improving operational speed and accuracy.
DGPS/GPS Integration : The integration of Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) and GPS technologies ensures precise tracking of container stacking and unstacking operations, reducing positioning errors.
Seamless System Integration : The CTS is integrated with the port’s existing Navis Sparcs Container Terminal Operation System (TOS) and Navis Express Gate Operation System, facilitating real-time data sharing and efficient decision-making.
The implementation of the RFID-based CTS has led to substantial improvements in the operations of Colombo Port. Key benefits include increased operational efficiency, enhanced visibility and security of container movements, and future scalability to accommodate the port’s growing needs.
The automation of tracking processes has minimized manual interventions, significantly speeding up container handling while reducing human error. Furthermore, real-time tracking capabilities provide full visibility of container movements, improving accuracy and security within the port.
Powerdrive Technologies remains committed to delivering cutting-edge technological solutions that meet the evolving needs of global logistics and port operations. The successful deployment of the RFID-based Container Tracking System sets a new benchmark for real-time container tracking in the region, enhancing the operational capabilities of the Colombo Port.
